Nine Firefighters Earn Fire Instructor I Certification, Strengthening Regional Training Standards

This week, nine firefighters achieved a significant professional milestone, earning their Fire Instructor I certification — an accomplishment that strengthens not only their respective departments, but the future of the fire service across our region.

Among those earning the certification are seven members of the Chatham County Fire Department:

  • Jarrett Hansen

  • Cody Willoughby

  • Duncan Gorman

  • Ethan Henderson

  • Lashawn Taylor

  • John Lattig

  • John Capps

Joining them in this achievement are:

  • Jonathan Taylor – Liberty County Fire Services

  • Giovanni Oliveri – Jesup Fire Department

More Than a Certification

Fire Instructor I is more than a credential — it represents a commitment to leadership, mentorship, and excellence in training. Those who earn it are entrusted with delivering instruction that meets state standards, developing lesson plans, evaluating performance, and ensuring that knowledge translates into operational readiness.

In the fire service, training is not theoretical. Every drill, every classroom session, and every practical evolution directly impacts performance on emergency scenes. Effective instructors play a critical role in preparing firefighters to operate safely, efficiently, and confidently under pressure.

Investing in the Future

By stepping forward to become certified instructors, these nine firefighters have chosen to do more than respond to emergencies. They have committed to building the next generation of firefighters, strengthening team performance, and raising the standard of service across departments.

Their work will extend far beyond the classroom — shaping recruits, sharpening experienced members, and reinforcing a culture of continuous improvement throughout the region.

The fire service grows stronger when we invest in those who teach.

Congratulations to each of these dedicated professionals. Your leadership and commitment will leave a lasting impact on the communities you serve.
